This isn't a "framework X beats platform Y" post. Both can produce a fast, well-ranking blog. The right choice depends on who maintains the site after launch.
Choose WordPress if
- Non-technical people will be publishing regularly and need a visual editor
- The site needs plugins for things like membership, forums, or complex e-commerce
- You want a huge ecosystem of themes and "it just works" hosting
Choose Next.js if
- You or your team are comfortable with code, and want full control over markup and performance
- Content lives in markdown or a headless CMS, and gets committed like any other code
- Every millisecond of load time matters, and you'd rather ship static HTML than run PHP on every request
What a post actually looks like here
Adding a page is just a file with frontmatter on top:
---
title: "Post Title"
description: "One sentence for search results."
date: "2026-01-01"
tags: ["example"]
---
Your content, in plain markdown.
Save it in content/posts, and it's live on the next build — routed, styled, and included in the sitemap automatically.
Both platforms can rank. The real question is which one your team will still enjoy maintaining a year from now.
